OFFICE LOCATION & HOURS OF
OPERATION:
The BSCO office hours are 8:30
a.m. to 4:30 p.m. located in 333 PCTB. Formal registration of new
faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and trainees is generally done by
appointment which is coordinated with the departmental contacts from
each of the eight Basic Sciences Departments.
SERVICES PROVIDED:
The BSCO will collect, verify
and report the credentials of new faculty, postdoctoral fellows
and trainees to the Registrar's Office. The BSCO will also process
all new visa applications (primarily J-1's and H-1B's) for
faculty, postdoctoral fellows and trainees as well visa transfers
and extensions along with verification of financial
support.
- New faculty appointments and
promotions will be processed through the BSCO for the eight Basic
Sciences Departments of The Johns Hopkins University School of
Medicine and Howard Hughes Medical Institution.
- The registration of all new
faculty, postdoctoral fellows and trainees will be attained by the
BSCO. This process includes: the formal registration with the
Registrar's Office at the School of Medicine, the initiation of
health insurance benefits, the acquisition of an identification
badge, and initiation of satellite parking. This process concludes
with the credentialing coordinator accompanying the faculty
member, postdoctoral fellow or trainee to the departmental contact
for payroll initiation and orientation to that particular
department.
- The BSCO will implement and
maintain a database of Basic Sciences faculty, postdoctoral
fellows and trainees which will include demographics, financial,
and appointment/credentialing information. The BSCO will also
serve as a verification source for individuals needing their
appointments verified or confirmed (i.e., for housing, utility
service, telecommunication service, etc.). Notarial services are
available upon request; identification is required.
- Finally, all confidential
files and information relating to faculty, postdoctoral fellows or
trainee appointments will be maintained by the BSCO.
SERVICES NOT
PROVIDED:
Initiation of
payroll
- Initiation of tax forms or
questions relating to personal taxes
- Taxes are viewed as an

specific future goals are:

obtaining initial information from the Basic Sciences
Departments
- Develop and implement an
entrance and exit procedure with coordinated efforts from the
Basic Sciences Departments
- Develop and implement a
database/tickler system specifically for visa initiation and
expiration dates
- Provide information to the
Basic Sciences Departments on past and current trainees for grant
applications
Attend local and/or
national-level meetings which address credentialing or visa
matters
